State plans 2,000 jobs from fishing

The Lagos State Government has said that the provision of fishing assets for fishermen in the state will create over 2,000 jobs for unemployed youths.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said this, according to a statement on Thursday, while presenting fibre glass boats to youths at the Agricultural Development Authority Complex in Oko-Oba, Agege.

She said, “The government is committed to supporting the fishery value chain and it has envisaged that the deployment of these fishing assets would create over 2,000 jobs in both the up and down streams of the artisanal fisheries value chain and produce 4,531 metric tonnes of fish annually.
