Ogun State flags off Free Distribution of 100 million tomatoes seeds to farmers in Ogun State

The official presentation of 100 million Tomato seeds to Farmers in Ogun State by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), took place on Thursday, 20th May 2021, at the Headquarter Office of Ogun State Agricultural Development (OGADEP) in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. This Federal Government intervention was facilitated by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR.

The timely intervention will boost the ongoing European Union/German International Cooperation (GIZ)/Ogun State-Nigeria Competitiveness Project (NICOP) for Tomato, Pepper and Chilli value chains, in which 3,000 registered primary producers have been linked to land by Ogun State Government and are awaiting seeds and growth inputs.

As approved by His Excellency, Ogun State will witness free distribution of tomato seeds to farmers in the coming weeks, with Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP) charged with the coordination of this free distribution across the 20 LGAs of the State.

Dignitaries at the event include the Director General of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), ably represented by Ambassador Kayode Abiola, Ogun State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Engr. G.O. Oseni, Representative of the Honourable Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment; Engr. Akintomide, Director, Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB); Prof. J.O. Olaoye, Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Dotun Sorunke, Senior Special Assistants to Ogun State Governor on Agriculture; Hon.Tolu Bankole and Dr. Angel Adelaja-Kuye, Project Manager, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP); Mrs. Taiwo Ayansanwo, Farmers, Extension Agents, Staff of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and other stakeholders.
