Nigeria Imports N1.02trn Fish From Nine Countries

Amid quota restriction, Nigeria has imported N1.02 trillion ($2.06 billion) fish from nine countries in the last two years.

The imports increased by 38 per cent or $480.2 million from S789.74 million to $1.27 billion between 2019 and 2020. Before the increase, government had said that it would stop fish importation by 2022 despite the inability to meet local demand.

As at Thursday last week, findings by New Telegraph from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)’s shipping position revealed that six vessels were on queue at Lagos Port Complex to offload 27,836 metric tonnes of fish.
