Maize is a cereal crop that is grown widely throughout Nigeria. It is a major source of calories. Worldwide production of maize is about 785 million tons/annul, with the largest producer, the United States, producing 42%. The crop is grown in most states in Nigeria including: Adamawa, Bauchi, Anambra, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Sokoto, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, Ogun, Osun and Oyo states.
